Kolkata, Oct. 2 -- Two civic volunteers and a civilian, accused of stealing gold ornaments from a Durga idol in West Bengal's Malda district, were arrested after CCTV footage from the community puja identified them, official sources said today.
The theft occurred during the Gazole block community puja at Eklakhi Gandhi More, where the idol was decorated with gold ornaments.
The organisers noticed last evening that the ornaments were missing from the Durga idol and immediately reported the matter to the Gazole police.
Another set of similar ornaments kept at the altar of the Goddess was also found missing.
Upon investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage inside the pandal and identified two uniformed persons taking away the ornaments.
