Chandigarh, Aug. 13 -- A 16-year-old girl was rescued from a planned child marriage in Sangrahoor village, Faridkot district, thanks to swift action by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and other authorities.

The intervention followed a tip received via the Child Helpline, highlighting the effectiveness of community vigilance and rapid response mechanisms.

Punjab's Minister for Social Security, Women, and Child Development, Dr. Baljit Kaur, praised the coordinated efforts of the officials involved. She emphasized the importance of enforcing child protection laws to secure the rights and futures of young girls. The rescue operation adhered to the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
