Washington, May 17 -- At least 14 people were killed in the state of Kentucky due to a storm, Governor Andy Beshear said on Saturday.

Severe weather struck parts of Kentucky and Missouri late on Friday, with the storms continuing through the night.

"Kentucky, we're starting today with the tough news that we lost at least 14 of our people to last night's storms, but sadly, this number is expected to grow as we receive more information. Please pray for all of our affected families," Beshear said on X.

Another seven people were killed in the state of Missouri, the NBC broadcaster reported, citing officials. In the city of St. Louis, the storm may reportedly have affected 5,000 homes.
