Kangra, April 4 -- Himachal Pradesh on Friday observed the 120th anniversary of the devastating earthquake, one of the most devastating tremors in Indian history, by bringing out rallies and holding street plays.
The quake that struck the Kangra region on April 4, 1905, measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, caused widespread damage.
The epicentre of the earthquake was near Kangra city, and destroyed villages and towns across the region. The district headquarters, Dharamsala, suffered heavy damage, and many buildings collapsed.
