Rayachoti, Sept. 24 -- The Andhra Pradesh police have seized 12 red sander logs, worth Rs 34 lakh and arrested nine woodcutters at the Sundupalli forest area of Annamayya district, a senior officer said today.
District Superintendent of police Dheeraj told the media here that the Red Sander Anti Smuggling Task Force personnel sighted the woodcutters while conducting a combing in the forest area.
On noticing the police team, the woodcutters, who were carrying the logs, started fleeing into the forest. The task force personnel chased and apprehended nine of them and seized 12 red sander logs valued at Rs 34 lakh. However some woodcutters managed to escape into the forest.
