Itanagar, Dec. 9 -- Normal life came to a standstill in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) on Tuesday following a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Youth Organisation (APIYO), Indigenous Youth Force of Arunachal (IYFA) and All Naharlagun Youth Organisation (ANYO).
The shutdown was observed from 5 am to 5 pm to press for fulfilment of the organisations' charter of demands.
The youth organisations have been seeking, among other demands, the demolition of illegally built mosques and madrasas within the ICR, removal of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, recognition of two existing legal masjids, and a ban on weekly markets in the ICR and neighbouring areas such as Doimukh and Hollongi.
