Lima, Dec. 2 -- At least 12 people were killed, six injured, and 30 others remain missing in a landslide-triggered river accident early Monday at the port of Iparia in Peru's Coronel Portillo province, police said.

The accident occurred around 5 a.m. local time when the landslide struck the boarding area and hit two vessels that were docked at the port, said the police from the east-central Ucayali region, according to local media.

The vessel Rapido Oriente was completely submerged, while the passenger boat Deo Rigo suffered severe damage. The latter had departed from the city of Pucallpa toward several indigenous communities and was disembarking passengers in Iparia when the landslide occurred.
