Kalaburagi, Oct. 1 -- Severe floods have affected 117 villages across Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgir, and Vijayapura districts in Karnataka, prompting the opening of 80 care centres to assist residents, Karnataka Chief Minister informed.

"The disaster has been intensified by heavy rainfall across the region and water released from Maharashtra," he told reporters here.

The floods have caused extensive agricultural damage, with an estimated 10 lakh hectares of crops destroyed. Eight districts, including Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Yadgir, Bidar, Raichur, Gadag, Kalaburagi, and Dharwad, have reported 95 per cent crop loss, Siddaramaiah said.
