Kolkata, Aug. 15 -- In a devastating accident this Independence Day morning, at least 10 people were killed and over 35 injured in the Nabab-hat Fagupur area on National Highway 19 in East Burdwan, West Bengal.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 7 a.m. in the morning when a passenger bus travelling from Tarakeswar to Asansol rammed into the rear of a stationary lorry parked on the highway.

The impact of the accident was so high that the front portion of the bus was completely mangled.

Eyewitnesses said there were about 60 passengers on board, all residents of Bihar who had visited West Bengal for religious offerings and were returning home.
