Shimla, Dec. 4 -- Around 1,24,780 families have encroached upon government and forest land across Himachal Pradesh, according to data placed before the state assembly on Wednesday. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, responding to a written query, said the information was based on figures submitted to the High Court on August 5, 2025.
The Minister clarified that the matter is sub judice in the Supreme Court following a special leave petition filed by the state government. Therefore, no policy on rehabilitation or protection of affected families can be framed until further directions of the apex court.
