Kabul, June 30 -- One person has been confirmed dead, and three others sustained injuries as a roof collapsed in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province yesterday evening, provincial government spokesman Mustaghfir Gurbaz said today.

The gruesome incident took place in the wake of a heavy downpour in Jaji Maidan district, in which a 64-year-old woman lost her life and three others, including two children, were injured, the official said, adding that all the injured individuals had been taken to hospital.

In war-torn Afghanistan, especially in the countryside, people are mostly living in mud houses, which are prone to natural disasters such as rainstorms, snowfall and flooding.
