Chennai, Aug. 16 -- A total of 1,440 MW of nuclear power capacity in Southern India is under shutdown for various reasons, as per Grid Controller of India Ltd as of August 15.
Out of that 1,220 MW is expected to be back in operations this year itself.
The units belonging to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) that are under shutdown are: the 1,000 MW Kudankulam Unit 1, 220 MW units at Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) in Kalpakkam and Unit 1 at Kaiga in Karnataka.
The 1,000 MW Kudankulam Unit 1 was shut down on August 1, for refuelling purposes. The Unit
will restart power generation on 25.9.2025.
