Canberra, Aug. 11 -- Australia will formally recognise the State of Palestine at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in September, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced today, framing the move as part of a coordinated international push towards a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict.
Speaking after a Cabinet meeting, Albanese said the decision followed direct consultations with world leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
