Kolkata, Nov. 14 -- The Cuban feature 'To the West in Zapata', directed by David Bhim, emerged as a major winner, bagging both the Golden Royal Bengal Award for Best Film and FIPRESCI Award in the International competition on 'Innovation in Moving Images', as the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) came to a grand close on Thursday evening,Sri Lanka's Lalith Rathnayake won the Best Director Award for 'Riverstone', while Croatia's 'Beautiful Evening, Beautiful Day' (Lijepa Vecer Lijep Dan) by Ivona Juka received the Special Jury Award for its creative storytelling.

The highlight of the event was the conferral of the Lifetime Achievement Award on veteran filmmaker Goutam Ghose, marking the 100th Anniversary of FIPRESCI.
