Amaravati, Oct. 27 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday warned that 'Montha' over the Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28, before crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, around Kakinada, during the evening or night hours.

According to the IMD, the system moved northwestwards at a speed of 17 kmph during the past six hours and was centred about 480 km east of Chennai, 530 km south-southeast of Kakinada, and 560 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam.

The storm is expected to bring maximum sustained wind speeds of 90-100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph, as it makes landfall.
