New Delhi, Sept. 24 -- The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea by the Tamil Nadu government seeking permission to instal a bronze statue of late former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in Tirunelveli district, upholding the Madras High Court's order restraining such installations in public places.
A Bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice P.K. Mishra questioned the state's move, asking, "Why are you using public funds for glorifying your former leaders?"Senior Advocate P. Wilson, appearing for the state, sought permission to withdraw the Special Leave Petition after some arguments. The Bench accordingly dismissed the petitions as withdrawn.
