London, July 21 -- Bob MacIntyre is confident of an automatic spot on the European Ryder Cup team in September after a strong showing at this year's Open Championship took him up one place to second in the standings.
The 28-year-old Scot finished in a tie for seventh at Royal Portrush after rounds of 71, 66, 70 and 67 left him 10-under par.
MacIntyre believes that, following on from his second-place finish at last month's US Open, he has gone a long way to making Luke Donald's team.
"My job is to qualify automatically so that Luke Donald can do what he wants with the picks," he said. "I feel like the last two majors I've put a massive dent in that.
