Colombo, Dec. 23 -- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo on Tuesday and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's warm wishes and India's message of solidarity in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah.

Jaishankar announced that, building on India's First Responder role under Operation Sagar Bandhu, India will commit a USD 450 million reconstruction package to Sri Lanka.

The assistance will cover rehabilitation and restoration of road, railway and bridge connectivity; construction of fully destroyed and partially damaged houses; support for health and education sectors affected by the cyclone; assistance to agriculture to address short- and medium-term shortages; and measures to ...
