Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 23 -- : Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Tuesday urged strict adherence to preventive measures to ensure that bird flu does not spread to humans, following confirmation of avian influenza (H5N1) in limited areas of Kottayam and Alappuzha districts.

Chairing a State-level Rapid Response Team (RRT) meeting, the Minister reviewed the situation and the steps taken by various departments.

She said that although no human cases of bird flu have been reported in Kerala so far, the situation calls for heightened caution and close field-level monitoring.

The Health Department has issued special Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical guidelines on avian influenza.
