New Delhi, Feb. 4 -- union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu on Wednesday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for calling him a "traitor," saying the remark was insulting and deeply hurtful to the Sikh community.

Reacting to the statement, Bittu said Rahul Gandhi believes only his family made sacrifices for the nation.

He accused the Congress party and the Gandhi family of creating unrest in Punjab in the past.

"The Golden Temple was fired upon. Thousands of Sikhs and Punjabis were targeted and killed. If Rajiv Gandhi is called a martyr, then Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Beant Singh should also be called a martyr. I also come from the same background, this is my pain," Bittu said.
