Dhaka, Feb. 3 -- Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam has said that the young generation wants to establish a merit-based and professional bureaucracy.

On Sunday (February 2), the Adviser made this remark while speaking at the 77th foundation training course for BCS cadre officers at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre in Savar.

He said, "The bureaucracy in Bangladesh had been used for political purposes at previous time. In many cases, government officials were promoted based on political considerations, which was very unfortunate. It is time to move away from this situation. Therefore, institutionalization of the bureaucracy is necessary."
