, Jan. 5 -- A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of announcing the schedule for the national election and a referendum on the same day.

The writ petition also sought a stay order on the effectiveness of the gazette notification issued on December 11 on the schedule for both the parliamentary election and the referendum on a single date.

It also sought a directive to form a non-party caretaker government and hold the national parliamentary election within 90 days under such an administration.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Md Eunus Ali Akond filed the writ petition on Monday.
