Khagrachari, July 27 -- An activist of the Democratic Youth Forum, backed by the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), was shot dead by miscreants in Ugudochari village of Chengi Union in Panchhari Upazila on Sunday afternoon.

According to a statement signed by the organisation's office secretary, Shyamal Chakma, the victim Khuku Chakma, 41, was gunned down around 3pm in what the Forum alleges was an attack by armed members of the Santu Larma-led faction of the Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS).

Khuku Chakma was a resident of Betchhari Christian Para in Kamalchhari Union of the Khagrachari district.
