Sylhet, Sept. 1 -- A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Dobang in Beanibazar upazila on early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Mezbah Uddin, 45, son of Alim Uddin of Zakiganj upazila. He was wanted in several robbery cases.

Aboni Shankar Kar, officer-in-charge of Beanibazar Police Station, said Mezbah was arrested from Jaflong Friday night.

Police took Mezbah with them to recover stolen goods.

During the drive, robbers opened fire on police, triggering a gunfight. Mezbah was killed on the spot.

A pipe gun was recovered from the spot.
