Benapole, March 23 -- Students blocked Benapole-Jashore highway on Saturday morning demanding compensation for schoolgirl Nipa who lost her right leg in Thursday's road accident in Sharsha upazila.

The school students put up barricade on the highway around 9am boycotting their classes and they also burned tyres.

Vehicular movement came to a halt following the road blockade.

The students chanted various slogans- 'We want safe road', 'We want compensation for Nipa'.

Nipa, the class VI student of Burujbagan Pilot Girl's School, lost her right leg and another class VII student Smrity, was injured critically, as a pick-up van of Palli-Bidyut Samity hit a van carrying the schoolgirls.
