Dhaka, Aug. 6 -- South Korea on Tuesday assured to extend financial and technical assistance to Bangladesh to set up a 'Jute Industrial Village'.

Korea Textile Machinery Convergence Research Institute (KOTMI) made the proposal at a meeting with Jute and Textiles Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi in Dhaka.

It also proposed to establish jute technology research institute, viscos pilot project, multi-purpose jute goods factory, jute export inspection centre, jute exhibition hall and import-export support centre.

"The government is engaged in boosting jute production," the minister said adding that 26 BJMC mills are now functioning.

"The old machineries will be replaced to revive the closed jute mills," he said.
