Sylhet, March 14 -- A college student was killed after being hit by a vehicle belonging to a confectionery company in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet on Friday.

The deceased, Maruf Ahmed, 18, was an 11th-grade student at Kanaighat Government College and the son of Faruk Ahmed, a fruit trader from the Dhalaichar area of the municipality.

The accident occurred around noon when a vehicle from Mithai Sweetmeat struck Maruf, who was riding his bicycle, in the Rampur area of the municipality, said Abdul Awal, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kanaighat Police Station.

Maruf was later taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Efforts are underway to arrest the driver.
