Dhaka, Sept. 28 -- BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday said an Islamist party has "lost balance" in its bid to go to state power.

"An Islamist party has lost balance in its efforts to come to power. Jamaat-e-Islami is not an independent political party. They work as a branch of a party from another country," he said.

The BNP leader made the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting the Durga Puja celebration at Ramna Kali Mandir in the capital.

He said BNP does not need to change its identity, as it does politics for the people of Bangladesh and is deeply rooted among them.
