Bangladesh, July 13 -- A child drowned on Monday as the overall flood condition worsened due to persistent swelling of the major Rivers in the country.

Intermittent heavy shower and onrush of water from the upstream has been causing rise of water levels in major rivers submerging the low-lying areas and villages of the River banks.

In Lalmonirhat, an eight-month old baby girl drowned in flood water at Goddimari village in Hatibandha upazila.

The deceased was identified as Alifa Akhter, daughter of Anwar Hossain.

Atiar Rahman, chairman of Goddimari union parishad, said that the minor girl slipped into the flood water and drowned early in the morning.
