Rajshahi, Aug. 28 -- A police officer sustained bullet wounds after his pistol accidentally went off while he was cleaning it at Katakhali Police Station in Rajshahi on Wednesday night.
The injured, Wares Ali, 45, an assistant sub-inspector, was struck in the right knee when the firearm discharged around 11pm, colleagues said.
He was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Dr Shankar Kumar Biswas, a physician at the hospital's emergency department, said Wares is now out of danger.
Abdul Matin, officer-in-charge of Katakhali Police Station, attributed the incident to negligence, adding that the injured officer remains under medical supervision.
