, Jan. 4 -- Police charged batons on Sunday to disperse mobile phone traders staging a sit-in at Karwan Bazar in the capital demanding the postponement of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system.

Witnesses said a group of traders along with their families took to the road around 10:00 am, pressing demands including the government's implementation of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system and the release of those arrested during the attack on BTRC Bhaban.

The protesters blocked Karwan Bazar road by noon, disrupting traffic and causing severe inconvenience to commuters, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tejgaon Police Station Kaisainu.
