Dhaka, Oct. 20 -- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday put emphasis on boosting trade and commerce between Bangladesh and Vietnam for improving the status of the two countries with mutual benefits.

"We can enhance our trade and commerce to utilise the huge population of the Southeast Asia," she said.

The prime minister said this when outgoing Vietnamese Ambassador in Dhaka Tran Van Khoa made a courtesy call on her at her office.

PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

He said Sheikh Hasina said Vietnam has a special place in the hearts of Bangladeshis and both the nations struggled for their national independence.
