Dhaka, June 1 -- Some 335,000 surplus sacrificial animals are ready for Eid-ul-Azha this year in Pabna district, exceeding the actual local demand.
According to the statistics of the District Livestock Office, a total of 648,204 animals including bulls, oxen, cows, buffaloes, goats, and sheep are ready at 27,101 farms in the district for the Eid-ul-Azha.
But the district's estimated demand for sacrificial animals stands at 312,826, leaving a surplus of 335,378 animals, which are expected to meet the demand in other parts of the country, including Dhaka and Chattogram, said a PID handout on Sunday.
Last year as well, the number of sacrificial animals was nearly double the local demand in Pabna.
