Dhaka, July 3 -- A centre has been set up in the capital for display and sale of multi-purpose jute goods.

Inaugurating the centre at Motijheel, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said it has been set up for display and sale of multi-purpose jute goods produced by the local entrepreneurs.

Through this centre, local and foreign buyers would be able to obtain knowledge about the multi-purpose jute goods and sell them from one place, Humayun added. The Minister hoped that the centre would play an important role in restoring 'the lost glory of jute'.

He said that it would not be possible for the 'Golden Fiber', as jute is called, to survive and thrive through conventional methods.
