Chattogram, March 26 -- One person was killed and several others injured in a clash between two BNP factions over the formation of new party committees in Baraiyarhat municipality of Mirsharai upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Javed, 40, said Sabbir Mohammad Selim, officer-in-charge of Jorarganj Police Station.

The conflict arose between BNP leader Nurul Amin's Chairman Group and the Nurul Amin Kala Group over party positions. This dispute escalated into a clash in Baraiyarhat on Wednesday morning, resulting in Javed's death at the scene and injuries to several others.

Many of the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex, the OC added.
