Dhaka, Jan. 28 -- A new political party, 'Bangladesh Democratic Power,' has emerged with a commitment to protecting the country's sovereignty and contributing to national reconstruction, rather than seeking power or elections.

The party's convener, Major General Mohammad Ehtesham-ul-Haq, stated, "We have not come for elections or power. We have come with the pledge to play a leading role in safeguarding the country's independence, sovereignty, and rebuilding the state."

He remarked those at a press conference held at the National Press Club on Tuesday.
