Dhaka, Oct. 21 -- listed teachers and staff on Tuesday called off their protests after the government increased the house rent allowance by 15 percent, ending the 10-day movement.

Delwar Hossain Azizi, secretary of the MPO Education Nationalisation Alliance, said, the protest has been withdrawn and they will return to classes from Wednesday.

The teachers said they will continue discussions with the government on remaining demands.

They gathered at Central Shaheed Minar to celebrate the government's announcement and expressed optimism that all their rightful demands would be met in future, said Md Abul Kalam Azad, a teacher of Islamnagar High School in Thakurgaon.
