Dhaka, July 2 -- Dhaka District unit Jubo Dal President Yasin Ferdous Murad on Tuesday said the July-August mass uprising might not have succeeded without the leadership of BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

"Tarique Rahman was the main figure behind the success of the July-August mass uprising. Under his leadership, students and people made the movement a success by ousting the autocratic ruler Sheikh Hasina," he said.

Murad made the remarks while speaking at a views-exchange meeting organised by the local BNP at Amtala Union in Dhamrai upazila of Savar.

Murad said many people who now speak loudly about the movement often forget that BNP has made the biggest sacrifices in the country's democratic movement.
