Dhaka, April 11 -- The Supreme Court has appointed four senior lawyers as amici curiae to take their expert opinions on whether life imprisonment means jail until death.

The four amici curiae are Barrister Rokonuddin Mahmud, Advocate AF Hasan Arif, Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan and Advocate Monsurul Hoque Chowdhury.

The six-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain also fixed May 9 for hearing a petition seeking review of the Supreme Court judgment delivered on February 14, 2017 with an observation that life imprisonment means sentence until death.
