Dhaka, Aug. 27 -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has donated 50 wheelchairs to a Cox's Bazar school for children with special needs.

The move is part of IOM's stepped-up efforts to support the host community, the organisation said in a statement on Tuesday. Canada sponsored the wheelchairs.

According to the government, 28,000 persons with disabilities live in Cox's Bazar.

"Supporting persons with disabilities is a priority for IOM and we're pleased to offer this assistance as part of our increasing commitment to our friends in the Bangladeshi host community," said Patrick Charignon, IOM's programme manager for Transition and Recovery.
