Dhaka, March 2 -- Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury urged the businesspeople to refrain from increasing prices of essential items during the Ramadan.
The adviser made the call while talking to reporters after visiting the barracks of Mirpur Police Lines in the capital.
He mentioned that in many Muslim countries, including those in the Middle East, the prices of goods are kept low during Ramadan. But in Bangladesh traders increase the prices of goods during festivals.
"I would like to request the businesspeople not to raise the prices of commodities at this time. During Ramadan, they should keep the prices of goods as low as possible. If this can be done, consumers will be relieved," he said.
