Dhaka, Jan. 30 -- year-old man's wrist was severed during a hijacking incident in Dhaka's Mohammadpur on Thursday.

The victim is Md. Sumon Sheikh, son of the late freedom fighter Shahadat Sheikh from Pirojpur Sadar upazila, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (media) Talebur Rahman.

The incident happened when Sumon was crossing the Adabor Balur Math area at 2:45 pm. The hijackers attacked him and severed his left wrist with a machete, said eyewitness Md Liton.

Passersby rescued Sumon in critical condition and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 3:30 pm. He is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, said the police official.
