Dhaka, Sept. 7 -- Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed on Sunday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the demise of prominent writer, researcher, and left-leaning intellectual Badruddin Umar.

Dr Salehuddin, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Science and Technology, prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members of Umar, one of the leading figures of liberation-seeking movements in Bangladesh.

Umar breathed his last at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital around 10 a.m. He had long been suffering from various age-related complications.

His condition deteriorated on Sunday morning, prompting his admission to the hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.
