, July 29 -- Eight shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at Old Tewariganj in Laxmipur district early Tuesday.
Station Officer of Laxmipur Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the fire broke out at a shop at the dead of night and engulfed the adjoining seven more shops.
On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after one hour of frantic effort.
The affected traders claimed that the estimated loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk one crore.
Primarily it is suspected that the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit.
However, the loss caused by the fire could not be ascertained yet.
