Narayanganj, June 11 -- A bus driver was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a girl in a moving bus in Meghna New Town area of Sonargaon.

The arrestee was identified as Shamim Mia, son of Abdur Rab Mia. He is a driver of Swadesh Paribahan bus service.

Locals said the victim was going to Sonargaon's Charkishoreganj from her Gazaria office. Other passengers got down at Morgapara Chourasta.

The driver took the girl to Asariarchar area instead of Meghnaghat. He handed over the steering to his assistant around 10:30pm and pounced on the girl.

Around that time, a local trader, waiting for bus in the market area signalled the vehicle to stop. But the bus tried to speed away from him.
