Dhaka, Sept. 17 -- Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has declared its headquarters a 100% smoke-free zone.

The announcement came from Md. Amirul Islam, Deputy Managing Director (Human Resources and Administration) of Dhaka WASA, during a stakeholder meeting on Wednesday at the Buriganga Hall of the WASA building.

The event was jointly organised by Dhaka WASA and the Development Organisation of the Rural Poor (DORP) to strengthen tobacco control initiatives and advance the goal of a tobacco-free Bangladesh.

Speaking as the chief guest, Md. Amirul Islam stressed that smoking harms not only smokers but also non-smokers exposed to secondhand smoke.
