, Jan. 9 -- The BNP Standing Committee is going to hold a meeting tonight (Friday night) to discuss the current political situation and organisational matters.

The meeting will be held at 9pm at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office, said BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will preside over the meeting.

Party sources said although the meeting was not part of a previously scheduled plan and has no fixed agenda, it is considered an important one.

The meeting is taking place amid indications that Tarique Rahman may soon be made the party chairman.
