, Sept. 13 -- year-old girl drowned in a pond on Saturday afternoon in Matlab Dakshin upazila of Chandpur.

The deceased was identified as Umme Habiba, a first-grade student and daughter of Habib Mia from Naogaon village in Uttar Union.

Kamruzzaman Molla, chairman of Naogaon Uttar Union Parishad, confirmed the incident.

According to the family, Habiba had lunch with her mother around noon on Saturday and went out to play. When she did not return for a long time, family members began searching for her and discovered parts of her clothing floating in a nearby pond.
