Chattogram, May 24 -- Police in a drive arrested 54 Rohingya people from Kazir Deuri area in the city early Friday.

Being tipped off that some Rohingya people were roaming in the city, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested 54 Rohingyas including 14 women and 32 children around 1:30 am, said Mohammad Mahsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

The Rohingya people came here to collect 'zakat' during the month of Ramadan, he said.

Police are taking steps to send them back to Cox's Bazar Rohingya camp, said the OC.
