Dhaka, Sept. 27 -- At least 36 people, including eight children, were killed in a stampede during a political campaign by TVK leader Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday evening.
The deceased include 16 women and 12 men, while more than 40 others are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the region, reports Times of India.
State Health Minister Ma Subramanian said doctors and forensic experts have been deployed to Karur Government Hospital to assist in the emergency response.
He also confirmed that Chief Minister M K Stalin is scheduled to visit Karur following the tragedy.
